Automounting flash drives

I have a flash drive that came formatted as FAT16. In this original
configuration, FC6 has no problem automounting it. However, if I reformat
the drive using Gparted (to ext2, FAT32, or even FAT16), it no longer
automounts.

What magic is going on here?
