Hi Paul,

My LCD Philips is only capable of 1280x768 @ 60Hz. I try to change the resolution of the laptop to 1024x768 and after restarting both two LCD were working. But I've noticed the screen resolution of the laptop was turn into big / larger width unlike before which is fit resolution (1024x768 default without hooking up the external Philips LCD monitor).

Here's the output from xrandr command.

I try to use xrandr shown below but it's never work and I don't know how to use it just to fix the problem. I found your message logged through google.

 xrandr --output VGA-0 --mode 1024x768 --output LVDS-0 --mode1024x768 --left-of VGA-0

and nothing happens.

It only sees one monitor now.  Can you plug in both monitors and
re-start the system and then check xrandr?  It should show monitors
like VGA-0 and VGA-1 or such.

xrandr --output VGA-0 --output VGA-1 left-of

Since xrandr can work interactively, experiment with that, and then
try the xorg approach.  I do have a working xorg.conf that I posted in
this email list last Friday, in a message with a title "dual head
howto for xrandr; problem with window manager, no more merged fb or
xinerama flags"
