Hi
Walking through all the comments I think
the NT box is blocking you from accessing the internet, You
can try these things below
- Remove the linux machine from the network
and give its IP address to any other windows machine and put all the necessary
information (proxies IP and port number)to the IE
and try to browse. If it is working then it is not the problem with the
blocking of IP address.
- Now disconnect the windows machine from the network and attach the
Linux machine and try to do the following (assuming Proxies IP as
192.168.0.254 and port is 8080)
type at the shell prompt – telnet 192.168.0.254 8080 –
and press enter
You will get a prompt like this
Trying 192.168.0.254...
Connected to 192.168.0.254.
Escape character is '^]'.
Now type
GET http://www.google.com/ HTTP/1.0
And press 2 or three
returns and if every thing goes well then it may be the setting that you are
giving to the mozilla or any other software. Also
make sure that the local firewall setting is okey. That
means it permits out going connection from the machine.
Thank you

Thanks Dimitriy.
I tried all that. I am thinking now
that it might be an NT authentication issue.
I also have Oracle Financials on NT
and I can't get to the Oracle Web Server either both
by IP address or name so I'm
researching this deeper.
Nelson.

Should work,
Maybe a DNS problem - try typing
the IP address of the site instead of the
domain name and see of that works
(browser and ping), Ive ran into these
kinds of problems before, not with
a Windows NT proxy though.
Hope this helps
