nice. i had merely assumed that my system didn't know about the adapter at all, but after scanpci showed it, i was confident enough to look up how to install it manually in RH Unleashed. i did modprobe and ifconfig, and after a reboot, the adapter showed up in RH's gui-based net config tool, where i configged, restarted, and now everything is jake. thanks.
i wonder why my initial RH9 installation didn't notice the adapter?

Subject: [rhn-users] RH9 won'd recognize network adapter
i installed rh9 on a system that has onboard ethernet, and everything worked
out-of-the-box, no problem. my second system has a PCI network adapter, but
the installation does not recognize the card. It's a Realtek RTL8139 fast
ethernet card, which RH's web site says is certified hardware. Everything
else about my installation appears good, but what can I do to make rh
recognize that there's a network adapter in one of the PCI slots? Network
configuration lists no devices at all.
