Would like to avoid the low level stuff if at all possible.

Spent the night going thru the list archives.. Ran across something 
totally unrelated to my problem but decided to give it a try..

Go in and tweak the IRQ's thru BIOS provided by the computer.

Each pci nic card has a different IRQ via the options provided by 
the compaq deskpro bios setting. I've got packets flying all over the 
place now..
