Up2date is usually configured not to update kernel packages.  The -f (force)
option overrides this.  So if you type up2date -uif, then everything,
including kerne; packages, will be updated.

If your system is 7.2 or earlier, preocautions may be needed before updating
kernel packages, including making a boot disk.  I don't know the details
of this.
