For anyone interested: Red Carpet is a great software package manager
and can be downloaded from ximian.com for free. It does everything
up2date does and has several channels to subscribe to. Also, if
connection is broken, it picks up where it left off(1) if you remember
which package/packages you were updating. I've never had any stalling
problems either.
(1) It actually starts over, but at a much faster transfer speed than
usual until it reaches the point at which the connection was broken.
