For anyone interested: Red Carpet is a great software package manager
and can be downloaded from ximian.com for free. It does everything
up2date does and has several channels to subscribe to. Also, if
connection is broken, it picks up where it left off(1) if you remember
which package/packages you were updating. I've never had any stalling
problems either.
(1) It actually starts over, but at a much faster transfer speed than
usual until it reaches the point at which the connection was broken.

I have had that problem also. I think it is because of the dial up
being a slow connection and the update packages get corrupted during the
transfer. It has happened many times on long downloads at any given
point during download. You just have to keep trying until it goes
through.

I am a completed mewbie. Can you imagine what I went thru with up2date
not working? I didn't know what I was doing wrong, only to find out it
wasn't me at all.

I have been having a problem with some packages when trying to download
them. I get a message that says they are corrupted and don't have the
required signature. I am using a regular dialup connection. Is this
problem in my system or the rhn? Thanks for your help.

Hi Bob

I didn't have any problems - didn't know there were any until I saw your

posting - I only have three active subscriptions.

I have no idea what the scope of the problem was. It could be it was just me
ant 3 others, for all I know.

But, given the cause (database migration fubar), I seriously doubt it was
limited to a few accounts.

In any event, RHN did support me with additional accounts as 'work-arounds'
to keep things running, and they seem to have now repaired the corruption.

Although, I have to also say, I deduced the need and procedure for
re-registering systems, and for re-assigning to package channels to systems.
RHN tech support suggested none of that.
