Hi Aaron

One good strategy is to get a book specific to your Red Hat distribution. For example when I was using Red Hat 7.1 I bought "Red Hat Linux 7.1 Secrets" by Naba Barkakati and it proved to be an invaluable starting point. And, as has already been said, get into reading the documentation supplied with the distibution; (the Install Guide, Getting Started Guide etc. for starters) but only read the stuff specific to what you really need to know otherwise you may experiece "mind meltdown" as there is more that can be learned than an above average intelligence can cope with.

Then there's the question of what you want to do with your Linux box? For learning applications the Sams "Teach Yourself" series are a really good starting point, although some of their books are a bit dated (such as "Teach Yourself GIMP in 24 hours") but not so dated as to lose their value.
