I am using now redhat 9.0 on a Pentium III connected to the internet
with a cable modem... and there is problem in the Local Net.
On the redhat 7.3 the ip_forwards enabled the access of a client
computer to access the internet with no problem at all.
I upgraded from redhat 7.3 to red hat 9.0 and now,
when I activate the ip_forward to enable the client computer to access
the internet, after a while the trafic speed drop to about 3%.
In the original kernel the slow down occured after few minutes both
in the main computer and the client.
in the upgraded one 2.4.20-18 it took a bit longer for the slow down to
occure - on one ocasion after boot the slow down occured after two days.
deactivation of the ip_forward restore immediately the trafic speed of
main computer...
I wonder what can be wrong with the iptables masquerading that cause
such a slowdown
Ilan
