Hi,
I have a line printer connected to the parallel port of a linux redhat 8.0 box,
and some other PCs with linux in a LAN. I have configured the redhat box to
correctly print in its local printer, but now I need to configure it as a remote
printing server (via LPRng/lpd) for the other linuxes. I configured
/etc/printcap to do that but when a print service is requested from any other
machine, it is not serviced. If I send a print job from the linux client "plang"
[49]plang$ lpr -Plp test
The answer to
[50]plang$ lpq -Plp
is
Printer: lp plang (dest lp 172 16 12 99)
Queue: no printable jobs in queue
Status: removing job 'cfA701plang.puj.edu.co' - JREMOVE at 22:55:44.335
`no connect permissions
Here, plang is the remote (client) machine requesting the print service and
172.16.12.99 is the machine with the printer attached (redhat 8).
I think that the configuration is Ok but there is some permission that I have
not configured, may be a firewall rule (or xinetd ?). But as long as I remember,
when I was installing the redhat 8.0 box, the security configuration (firewall)
described: "High security blocks all incoming accesses. Medium blocks access to
system services (such as telnet or printing), but allows other connections. No
firewall allows all connections". In that moment I chose "MEDIUM", but when
configuring the printing service I ran again redhat-config-securitylevel and
chose "NO Firewall".
Can you tell me what have I missed or what is the problem ?
Thanks in advance for your answer.
Regards,
Gabriel
