Re: [rhn-users] USB Modems

hello
I've had this problem too!
I've been unable to find a ISP that supports DSL using LINUX! I had bellsouth, but they seem to absolutely not to support LINUX! even with me demanding and threatening  several times they do so! meanwhile I dropped them as a ISP. I did find one person that said he got it partly to work. it does requite a lot of work and I'm not good enough with LINUX.

"Using the Alcatel SpeedTouch USB ADSL modem with Red Hat 7.2 LINUX" by J. D. Frankland, 08 April 2002. I forgot where I found this. maybe FreshMeat. I've looked on DSLReports too. but not lately.

it is a very verbose document!

I'm hoping that somewhere someone in the LINUX community will find a way to get DSL to work with LINUX!!
it was great in Window 98 to download some very big applications and large amounts of Email in a very short time. I was hoping Red Hat with it enormous resource could do it.there seems to be no focus on this problem. I really don't see too many people addressing this problem! DSL is great when you don't have to wait 24 hours to download LINUX for instance! or 2 to 4 hours for other programs! it saves wear and tear on your MIND! at least what is left after waiting 2 hours instead of 5 min for a download!

SIGNED
still looking for a ISP that supports DSL for LINUX - smile

 Thanks for the info.

I think I can get this going! (I managed to get a Winmodem to work with
Linux).

I'm starting to work out why people made coffee machines Linux-compatible

Best Regards

Hi,

I'm trying to get my Alcatel speedtouch USB modem to work with linux.
usbview correctly identifies the modem. I just can't see how to make it
connect to my ISP.
Can anybody point me in the right direction?

Linux is hard work, but what a great OS!

Thanks in advance

I tried looking into this for someone on this list previously, but
turned out to a huge hassle ( I have no vested interest ). Your best bet
is to write a insistent letter to your service supplier demanding linux
support. In the mean time you can google for the info -- it is possible
but good luck.

Cheers,
Ryan
