Yes, this is the best thing to do. Stick with hardware that's ISP and OS
independent. I've been using D-Link Modems and Routers without any
problems. I have both Linux and Win$ working together on the same network
without any hassle from my ISP. In fact, my ISP does NOT support Linux but
the equipment works anyways.
A lot of times, your ISP says they don't support Linux just means they
don't know what to help you configure it to work. But most equipment will
still work on their network using Linux.
