Did you try to ping IP address you assigned to your server ? If you can than,
your network is working. If not, the driver for your NIC is not correct.
If your NIC is ISA, make sure your bios is setup and assigns ISA IRQ
for it. If all of the above is correct than, your NIC card is bad or you have
a problem with the Ethernet cable.

I have installed RH 8.0 (Server installation) on one of our test machines. There is one 3Com 590 Network Interface Card in the server. The server is configured with the correct static IP information (host, subnet mask, gateway) but I cannot send packets outside of the NIC. I tried pinging the loopback (127.0.0.1) and that works but nothing else.
