[rhn-users] failed installs (Duane Christensen)

Duane,
Obviously there could be several causes to your problem but read your hardware description and then caught the
following on balug (Bay Area Linux Users Group) mail list.
Thought it might give you something else to consider:

Second this about IBM Deskstars. I have had 2 of 4 fail within a year of purchasing them, not on heavy use machines. A good friend, using Deskstars in a RAID of 2 physical disks, had them BOTH fail within an hour of each other - lost a week's worth of production data. I replaced my other two a few weeks ago, when one started to make unexpected grinding noises. It also slowed down enormously. (I will not buy IBM disks again.)

I think this is the general consensus. I personally won't buy anythingfrom
IBM after having occur dataloss occur from defective IBM products.
The one thing IBM did was make me extremly paranoid about my personal data.

I am trying to install ver9 basic on a non-denominational pc as a server. Abit mb/2.53 intel cpu/80g ibmhhd/1500mg ram. ^^^^^^^^^^^
Had it working at one point. Decided to reinstall after 3rd party program failed. Now, sometimes it locks on format(not always the same directory), and sometimes on package install(not always on the same package),
but in no case will it complete the install. Am using a boxed, purchased version of 9.
