Re: [rhn-users] Re: Your Linux-Problem

Hi Adam,

that's exactly what up2date does. So, here is my proposal: Login as root on you machine and start an X session. Open an X terminal and type "up2date&". As far as I remember, the machine then asks you a couple of questions if it is not already announced for the RHN. Anyway, after announcing, it should build a list with RPMs on your machine, and download from RedHat a list of RPMs and Obsoletes. Having done that, it will suggest to you a number of RPMs (quite a lot, possibly) from which you can select those you wish to update. Choose all of them (there is a checkbox for that). The machine will retrieve the files and install them, asking for a confirmation in between.
That's all you have to do, if your installation is consistent. You needn't download anything manually - if all goes well, that is.

Cordially,
Peter

Hi Peter,

No I have not come as far as to updating yet...

My problem is all these pending files like python2,
rhln and so on: when I have downloaded one, I discover
that it is pending on other RPMs and so on and so on.

I find it quite confussing... Are there any services
like in Mandrake 9.1 (which is distribution I am
runing on my laptop) that tells you that you have to
install this and this pending RPM the initial RMP?

Adam
