This was a good direction to go. I added some reverse lookups to our local dns server, and added that nameserver to the linux box, resolv.conf file and it now works.

I just ran nslookup with those 2 servers and I got the foloowing back
[emanners realprod emanners]$ nslookup realprod.acns.fsu.edu 209.193.4.7
;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached
This indictaes to me that those dns servers either dont exist or you
have other dns configuration issues.
Try my dns servers for instance and see if that works, if that does it
you may want to confirm that your dns ip addresses are correct.
nameserver 128.186.6.103
nameserver 128.186.8.8
