OK, calm down. "Linux" is not going out of the window here.
The *free* version of Red Hat is called The Fedora Project (see
http://fedora.redhat.com/). It's totally free and community supported,
and is better suited for you anyway - it has a much more agressive
update/upgrade path than any version of Red Hat before now.
The separation of 'free' and 'paid/server' was required because businesses
don't want to upgrade every 6 months, but home users don't want to be that
far behind the curve on current Linux technology.
Anyways, Red Hat isn't the only Linux distro out there. There is still
Mandrake and SuSE, among others. Still free, I believe.
