Maybe you should check the archives of this list or have a look at the redhat web site, as your comments seem a little ill-informed.

In particular, this page http://www.redhat.com/software/whichproduct/ explains the differences. There IS a free distribution - it's call Fedora.

Also the $1499/server you quote is one of the higher-end options - Enterprise versions start at $179...

This sounds to me as a very hostile move. Now I am very concern now of the
"openess" of Linux and its advantage against Solaris and Co based on this
new direction. The cost to port applications from an other OS to Linux is
pretty high, so now if I have to pay $1499 per server and per year.... I am
tempted to say: what's the point ?
