Thank you Tony.

Fedora is nice for hard core developper but for a small company which
develops solution, I need a more stable environment.
If I want to use Linux I have to invest money tand effort (Dev + QA) to
port applications from Solaris to Linux.
The $179 version won't work as it is a workstation solution, not a server
one. For this, with no support I have to pay $349 per machine per year. With
support it is $799 per year per host. I'll have to check with SUN and see if
it is worthwhile porting.

My 2 cents.

Brice,

Maybe you should check the archives of this list or have a look at the
redhat web site, as your comments seem a little ill-informed.

In particular, this page http://www.redhat.com/software/whichproduct/
explains the differences. There IS a free distribution - it's call Fedora.

Also the $1499/server you quote is one of the higher-end options -
Enterprise versions start at $179...

cheers,

tony

Great !!!

Windoz advocates are going to be happy of this !

RH pulls the plug on RH7.x and RH9. No more free Linux distribution, and

now

the "Path" with an OS option pricing based on server's type.

This sounds to me as a very hostile move. Now I am very concern now of

the

"openess" of Linux and its advantage against Solaris and Co based on this
new direction. The cost to port applications from an other OS to Linux is
pretty high, so now if I have to pay $1499 per server and per year.... I

am

tempted to say: what's the point ?
