The messages says there is *NOT* a symlink and sure enough ls -l
/usr/lib/libnewt* shows none there:

ls -l /usr/lib/libnewt*
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 66414 Sep 1 1999 /usr/lib/libnewt.so.0.50
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 55072 Feb 25 2000 /usr/lib/libnewt.so.0.50.8

One of thes is apparently supposed to be a symlink but they are
different sizes and its not clear what is supposed to happen there.

`rpm -V newt' shows no problems at all.
A reinstall of the newt rpm doesn't fix it either.
