Well, thank you for stating  the obvious (sometimes it's usefull), but
this  will  not  work  this  time  : I  really  have  a  problem  with
packages.rpm.

[pascal@hermes pascal]$ su -
Password: 
[root@hermes /root]# rpm -q -a
failed to open //var/lib/rpm/packages.rpm

rpmQuery: rpmdbOpen() failed
[root@hermes /root]# df

So, is there any "easy" way out of this "failed to open
//var/lib/rpm/packages.rpm" problem?





Thank you for  the security related hint about su, but  this host is a
special case  where it's better that I  use su. On my  own machines, I
routinely use `su -`.
