There is no best.  There is just different.

I like Red Hat because it installs easily.  I've used Slackware back
in the early days of Linux, and it worked well ... if you didn't mind
the stack of diskettes it took to install (now available on CD).
Debian is great for cutting edge stuff, though I personally find it
cumbersome to install and use.  I don't like the Slackware or Debian
package building process either.  Suse is okay, but it never grew on
me.I've tried several others, some of which no longer exist, and I
found I like Red Hat.  A personal pereference.

Try one.  Try'em all!  Decide for yourself.  I'd recommend Red Hat
to a first time Linux user though.
