bit more info :  this only happens on rpm 4.0.3. on 4.0.2 it works fine.
installing on the command line "rpm -U package" is fine, which leads me 
to believe its the code. and as the code works fine on 4.0.2 then there 
must be something extra/different  i have got to add to get to work on 
4.0.3 right ?
please help :)
