As you have noted, the most recent docs about RPM are of
course those contained within the source code -- the primary
source, so to speak. Be sure to examnle the output from a
rpm -ql rpm and review the documentation which is in the
.rpm, but not within the source code. It is a good fast
immersion in the package.
Secondary sources exist -- Maximum RPM, mailing list traffic,
mailing list archives, and other secondary sources -- I saw
that LinuxNewbie carried an intro today.
The LSB has curiously suggested for its standard (in its
proposed release 1.0) that a two year old variant of the
behaviour ducumented in an appendix to Maximum RPM, excluding
triggers, be the 'Linux Standard' -- It remains to see how
this will be accepted by, say, the Debian and Slackware
comunities.. Heck, _I_ have problems within the context of
current RPM practice with it.
As a result, I suppose we can expect more traffic here, soon.
... The website is by and large a bit stale, but accurate.
