I didn't use Berkeley db for RPM 4.0.3.
On Solaris I had
checking for db_create in -ldb... yes
and build was OK.
I have installed RPM 4.0 and 4.0.3 in different directories (not root).
Can it make problem?

Don't use an external Berkeley db library, use the internal one, that's
all I have plans/time to support, starting with rpm-4.0.3.
