problem erasing

I seem to have a problem erasing several packages. For example:
[root@localhost clfest]# rpm -qa | grep emacs
emacs-20.3-15
emacs-20.7-1
emacs-X11-20.7-1
[root@localhost clfest]# rpm -e emacs-20.3-15
[root@localhost clfest]# rpm -qa | grep emacs
emacs-20.3-15
emacs-20.7-1
emacs-X11-20.7-1
I have RedHat 6.0 with rpm-3.0.6-6x. I also have tried rpm -e
--allmatches,
but no dice. It seems to happen whether or not I --rebuilddb. Can
someone point
me to explanatory material/explain what is happening? Is there some way
I can
manually set my db/system straight and erase the offending packages?
For example
would rpm -ql tell me the files that I should erase, and rpm -e --justdb
clear the
data base? Is there anything else that I should do or watch out for?
Is there
a simpler way?
Thanx,
Henricus
