This was my experience with 4.0.3 also. I do not have that problem with
4.0.4.

Subject: rpm fails to save the original config file
Hello ,
I have rpm-4.0.3-1.03 installed however when i try to upgrade php it
overwrites the exisiting /etc/php.ini file
This is correct however for the following scenario
original file md5sum = X
changed file md5sum = Y
new file md5sum = Z
it should keep a backup of already existing /etc/php.ini as
/etc/php.ini.orig however it just replaces the already exisiting
/etc/php.ini.
Is this a bug in rpm 4.0.3 version and installing the latest rpm version
would be of some help ?
Thanks in advance
rishabh
