Previously compiled shared libraries not visible to RPM

Hello,

  After compiling and installing RPM for the first time, I tried to install 
an RPM.  It gave a list of failed dependencies, all of which I have already 
installed (before installing RPM).  How do I update RPM's database to 
recognize that I already have those libraries?
