Hi
I have recently installed Suse Linux 7.0 on a S390 platform. I am a
mainframe person but am slowly trying to get to grips with the
wonderful world of Linux.
I tried to install a package using RPM but got an error. I found the
problem on one of the newsgroup forums. I am running RPM 3.0.4-98 and
the package was built using RPM 4.xx. As I understand it I need to go
to RPM 3.0.5 (info on the Suse website) or higher. This will allow
me to be compatable with the new RPM 4.0 structure.
Being on the S390 platform, I cannot find any binaries so thought I
could download a src.rpm and install using that. I downloaded a
src.rpm from rpm.org for 3.0.5 but when I did a file rpm.xxxx it says
it was built for the i386 system. When I did an rpm -i package it
gave me errors for the host name. Looking at the configure.guess
script I can see that it will not allow S90.
What can I do to update the rpm.? Does anyone know of a website with
a rpm source that is configured for S390.
Thanks in advance
Chris
