Re: rpm doesn't recognize that apache installed

Hi all!

This thread arises one more question: are there any plans of implementing
something that will check fo actual presence of binaries, not packages. As a
good example I should mention Java (precisely JDK/JRE). Both IBM's and SUN's
(those in RPM format) do not provide any common feature even thought they are
replaceble, so because of this I myself can't write "correct" RPM with _all_
the requirements because I have nothing to refer to to check for java
presence... Isn't that weird? I've written for our purposes RPM with oracle
libraries, but one of those require libjava.so wich is in both SUN's and
IBM's RPMs, _but_ it's not specified in "Provides" section... As a quick hack
I install this package with --nodeps currently, but again - it's not a
solution. Rebuilding those RPM (JDK/JRE) sounds like dirty workaround, not a
solution...
Currenly rpm is flexible enought to allow that kind of things to happen but
not flexible enought to fix them without packager support. I think nobody in
IBM or SUN will change RPM just to satisfy my needs. They have their own
agenda so my $0.02 have nothing to do in their business. :(
