You might want to tar up the rpmdatabase so that if it gets totally scrooched
you can always fall back to the way it looks now. I would then try 
rpm --rebuilddb -v and see what you are left with. Most of the time this fixes things
for me.

I realize this is will not fix your problem but I am courious why you specify
-U and -F on the same command line? I would think -U would override -F.
