I'd agree you should focus on getting that program of yours working.
Arg, I'm not having a good day..
Here's what I tried to do, none of it made any difference..
1) Thinking it might be a glibc or glibc-devel bug (since that's where
the getgrgid function resides), I downgraded my versions of these to the
original RH7.2 versions. After fighting awhile with shared libraries
(and realizing that my /etc/ld.so.conf file had been wiped out-- that
wasted a good 45 minutes) I got the system back up and running.. but
alas, my program still failed, and rpm still complained..
2) Then I noticed that although I tried a stock 2.4.9-31 kernel from
redhat (in addition to my 2.4.8-31custom kernel), the rescue disk that
worked was actually running 2.4.7-something ... so I fought with myself
for awhile and decided to try UPGRADING my kernel (thinking it might be
fixed in a newer version).. so I downloaded the 2.4.18-10 source code
and built a 2.4.18-10custom kernel. This still doesn't work, either..
About the only thing I haven't tried is to reinstall the stock
2.4.7-something kernel. It's getting late now so I'll try it tomorrow.
Maybe something bad is happening during the recompilation, or I have
some option wrong.. bleah!
