Problems using rpm -e

Hi,

I have RedHat 9 running with RPM4.2. I have been trying to un-install the bind package. However running as root

rpm -e redhat-config-bind-1.9.0-13

(same thing happens for bind-9.2.1-16, bind-utils-9.2.1-16 etc)

hangs and does nothing. If i kill that window, then user "root' cannot even run "rpm -q -a" again and i have to restart the machine. How can I un-install the "bind" and "sendmail" packages" ?
