I gravitated toward 4.0.4 after running into Solaris build issues on the 4.1 stuff ... I'm looking for something that's stable and deployable to a production environment on Linux, AIX and Solaris.
So far as the AIX port is concerned, I'm having trouble with assembler code in the build:

... which I'm guessing may be as much to do with the toolset I'm using as the codebase.
I'm left wondering what combination of compiler and assembler works on AIX (xlc C/C++?), or whether someone's already put in the effort to do this and can spare me the heartache by providing binaries!

Well the most recent version is the rpm-4.2 series.
Maybe you should start there.
