In regard to: provides in ~/.rpmrc ? 3.0.6 vs. 4.4.6, Kevin Cosgrove said...:
Now that I've upgraded to rpm 4.4.6 "provides: <something>" in
~/.rpmrc is no longer valid. I've gone through the CHANGES file
and the manual pages, but I can't find anything that indicates
where this functionality moved to, or even if it still exists.
Jeff's already answered about /etc/rpm/sysinfo. The other option is to
build a virtual package that has provides lines for important stuff like
libc.so.N and /bin/sh.
You'll also need to pay attention to how directories are provided (i.e. if
you install a package that wants to put something in /usr/local/bin, you
need to have something that already provides /usr/local/bin).
