Yes it uses the aliases file and you must add the list name and it's
components to the aliases file manually. I run mailman myself but I compile
and install it from source myself from the mailman web site. When you type
bin/newlist and once you enter the list name and owner, you should see a
note to add whatever lines for that list to your aliases file and run
newaliases for it to take affect.
