Hello John;
     put it on top of a 3/4 cup of water ( to protect the microwave). 
     Run on high for 5 seconds, lots of blue sparks and nasty smell.
     Look at pretty pattern.
     Repeat as needed.

     It blows away the metal, leaves zig-zag tracks.

     ( I have 3 kids so do a lot of "science in the kitchen")
