I too am most frustrated about the weakness of customer support. I purchased
boxed sets of 7.0 and 7.1 with the hopes that the installation help included
with them would get me over the rough spots. I am a bit of newbie and was
hoping for a bit of hand holding. The no email, no response, duh answers
drove me bonkers. Not only that, I am not sure the tech read my posts (he
keep telling me to log out of GNOME correctly even though my posts clearly
stated that GNOME was not installed - only KDE).
Their final email was, "We regret to inform you that we can no longer assist
you in this issue. We checked out the mailing list (seawolf-list),from it we
believe the solution is yet to come (we tried the Internet too --the
consensus is the same). Try to follow the developments at www.kde.org (they
may have a new version that solves the errors)."
I probably should post the problems I am having on some bug list, but do not
know the best / correct procedure I should now follow. The problems are
sufficient to result in a system hang forcing a reboot on occasion.
Just for the record, here is a repost of my list of install problems:
The system is a RH 7.1 out of the box with up2dates applied. The package
list and the full XFree86 log can be viewed at www.mm-vanecek.cc. Other
items can be posted if that will help.
I have gone through the messages at www.kde.org a couple of times. Others
have seen some of the problems listed below, but I am not sure exactly what
is being said.
I am a newbie at this. If RH customer service is not able to figure it out,
then I am not sure I have the expertise to do so. I bought 7.0 and 7.1
distros with the hopes that the included RH install assistance would keep me
from having to debug things myself.
Would someone more knowledgeable than I please advise me as to how I should
proceed for each of the problems showing up in the XFree86 logs. Please note
that I am using KDE only (GNOME is not installed - see the package list).
Are these error messages tied together? Are they all errors (someone at KDE
said that PROBLEM 3 was not really a bug (does that mean it is a feature :)
?).
Thank you.
