Thanks for your msg. I wouldn't recommend doing a nodeps upgrade of
the kernel. You might find

to be helpful.
Iptables is a new firewall system that needs the 2.4 kernel. For me
the older system Ipchains is adequate. I would get the 7.0 version of
devfsd, quota, and sndconfig and see if they can be installed.
I just looked and there is quota action in /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit.
You could look at that if you wanted to turn it off.
The nfs failure is troubling.
