Hello,
I am interested in buying a AMD mobo.
Given the inherent problems with the VIA KT133A (Northbridge+
Southbridge+PCI bus+SB Live) and the fact that a chipset revision
does not seem to be forthcoming I looked for alternatives.
Mobo's with the most interesting alternatives, the SiS735 and
the NVIDIA nForce chipsets, probably won't be available soon
and support in the Linux kernel might also not be optimal or
even available.
The mobo's with the ALiMAGiK1 chipset have gotten universally
good reviews for stability and the seeming absence of bugs and
problems (though with DDR SDRAM they have relatively mediocre
performance, compared to the other options, (and not very
good performance with SDRAM)).
Judging from info on the ALI website and other places Linux
seems to have no problems with the chipset and AGP works with
NVIDIA cards.
But I would be very much interested in user experiences running
mobo's (for example ASUS A7A266 or IWILL KA266) with the ALiMAGiK1
chipset under RedHat 7.1.
Alexander
