Don't have (or need) a wheel mouse. Don't know.

Use xscreensaver & don't have energy saving turned on. Don't know

Use xvidtune (must be in X), get the settings, adjust the modelines in the
config file accordingly. Or, after getting xvidtune settings, rerun
Xconfigurator with --expert, choose custom and set things manually that
way. You might have to choose a custom monitor to do this, I don't recall
since I haven't used this method in over 2 years. But, I know it works
with a little trial-and-error.
