Yes, you have to vacate some space from hda1 or 2 if you want it to be under
the 8 GB limit.  You can, however, install using Custom installation, and
use fdisk to partition.  Create a /boot (if you want--it is not necessary)
and other partitions (remember swap!).  Then use disk druid to give them
names.  At the end, lilo should use lba32 (not linear) and it will be able
to boot above the 8GB limit.  You should create a bootdisk in case anything
goes wrong.  Then you can manually edit /etc/lilo.conf, add lba32, and rerun
lilo.

You can only use number 4.  It will have to be an extended partition (like
3), and then you can create 6, 7, 8, etc. inside of hda4.
