Had the same problem. Even tried removing/replacing cards to get it to
work (2 NICs) and it still failed. I just turned off networking and
added lines at the end of rc.local to bring the cards and networking up.
Except that I wasn't able to get it to work at all on this particular
release, this has been ongoing with 2.4.X in that I lose networking and
have to add/remove cards or add/remove lines to rc.local to get it back.
I intend to write a few bug reports as soon as I find time (maybe
Sunday).
This kernel release has the added feature (not a bug, surely) of saying
that it's unmounting all filesystems when shutting down, then sitting
there for long periods of time, such as forever, or until I hit the
power switch.
I was about to go back to the rawhide kernel since it didn't do that to
me and the NICs worked after manually moving them in and out of slots.
