smbmount

I'm trying to mount a windows NT drive onto a linux machine using the
following command:

smbmount //windows/share /mnt/mountpoint -o
username=$username,password=$password

and I get the following error:

session setup failed: ERRDOS - ERRnoaccess (Access denied.)
SMB connection failed

How can I get access to the windows share directory?
