Why do you dimiss BitTorrent as "not an option"?  It runs on any
platform, since it's python based, plus has a Windows version.  It will
work behind most any firewall (you don't really have to open the port,
it just helps).  If you're concerned about authenticity, just be sure to
check the MD5sums against a trusted source (don't use the file that
comes with the BitTorrent download!).  You can also check the RPM
packages themselves with Red Hat's public GPG key.
