bash/terminal issue

Okay,
Now, in addition to the OpenOffice.org issue I am having,
when I open a terminal, I get a bash session.  Everytime.
I don't seem to be able to open a terminal ([tony localhost tony]# )
And, when I close the bash session I get a message from KDE that
the console is not responding to the close request (close anyway?  ok  cancel)
