up2date weirdness

Ive just installed RH9 and when I run up2date --register to regsiter the
server with the RHN I get a blank blue screen and nothing else. I see up2date
running python and userhelper in my ps listing but pressing keys doesn't seem
to do anything. I think I have everything installed:

% rpm -qa | grep up2date
up2date-3.1.23-1

% rpm -qa | grep python
python-2.2.2-26
python-optik-1.4-2
rpm-python-4.2-0.69

% rpm -qa | grep rpm
rpm-4.2-0.69
rpm-python-4.2-0.69
rpm-build-4.2-0.69

Any ideas?
