IDE DMA errors

I just bought a new server with a single IDE hard drive today.  During
bootup I see this kind of error perhaps a dozen times.  Googling seems
to indicate that this is a hardware, cable or disk issue and not the
fault of the operating system.

Is this truly always a hardware problem?

Just confirming.
