hmmm. Okay, I tried the command, and got the following error:
# mkinitrd /boot/initrd-2.4.21.img 2.4.21
no module ips found for kernel 2.4.21
although I did use the modules_install line when i did the build:
# make dep clean; make bzImage modules modules_install
